What does the Kalash indicate ?
Currently, there is only one Kalash in the temple that is chained securely on the side of the entrance to Maa Hateshwari’s space. One legend says that first there were two Kalash, each guarding Maa Hateshwari and the town. Whenever a natural calamity was on the way, the Kalash used to try to flee, which hinted to the villagers about a possible flood. But one day, when the villagers went for their morning prayers, both the Kalash were gone. When they searched extensively, they could only find one of them, stuck between boulders. It was then brought back and chained in front of the temple so that it would not run away again.
